Just a general reminder about being aware and keeping vigilant about who you trade with. My tf2 backpack is public, and this random guy added me, it's not unheard of, so I accepted. We chatted for a sec to see what he was interested in, and I looked him up at https://backpack.tf. Steamrep verified scammer. This one was easy. They aren't always this clear. Be careful. https://backpack.tf/profiles/76561198120604018
Thanks for posting Gary. Ever since I got that Australium SMG people have been trying to trade me nonstop. Very hot commodity....that you can win with a minimum $10 donation to the server!
The thing with scammers is, if you even scratch the surface about who they are and their history, it becomes obvious what they are trying to get away with. So look them up on a site like steamrep of backpack.tf. Most of the time they offer cash via paypal for an expensive item but you need to trade first. Or sometimes they will offer something reasonable and swap it at the last second. But without a doubt the common thread among scammers is urgency. They need to get this trade through NOW, quickly for some reason or another. The real reason is that the quicker they get through with you, the less time you have to realize what is happening. So take your time and do a little background check on the people you're trading with.
Thank you for the warning and reminder to those who trade! As a rule I always reject/block random friend requests from people I've never played with before. I'm not sure if they're scammers or just traders, but either way I'm not looking to part with any of my (few) valuable items.
Recently-ish I was baited into making a trade. I made good on my end but the recipient failed to follow through. Cody : I just know the sound it makes when it *lies*!
