I think you guys saw this on Steam somewhere. Free Open beta out now (until the 5th). Made by the guy who made Unreal Tournament (CliffyB). It's a team-based shooter with lots of mobility. It's really fun and high velocity. I like it so far, especially with a fresh look on CTF and CP.
Wish I'd have gotten in on the beta. It looks really interesting. But as with all these sorts of games, it really comes down to the player base. Overwatch didn't really do it for me (about 15 hours played total, and I got it around Christmas).
I would hope it is a less toxic player base than the Overwatch base. I mean, they let Don Draper play... #waifuluv
Last Lawbreakers beta is coming this weekend. I'm going to try to get in on it, as this game looks really interesting. http://www.pcgamer.com/the-final-lawbreakers-open-beta-runs-this-weekend/
If he does the soundtrack I don't think I could afford the game. Silver is currently at $16.45 per ounce and there's no way I could spend 30 pieces.
So here's my review after about 20 minutes of playtime... The good: There are some interesting game modes - slight twists on typical capture point and capture the flag Interesting weapon ideas - I really like the fire/alt fire choices on the battle medic's primary pipe launcher. I'd love to see TF2 copy it for demo. Graphics are decent enough (clearly I'm struggling to have more good points) The not so good: I was expecting it to be a bit faster paced than it is. Definitely slower than Quake Champions. The vertical element/low gravity situations feel really gimmicky. I got stuck on teams of dipshits every round. Not the game's fault, but it sure didn't add to the fun. I've got to give the devs credit for trying new things, but this combination doesn't resonate with me. I think Quake does twitchy/fast shooters better. And TF2 is way more fun. As for Overwatch...there are tons of superficial similarities but the games don't play anything like each other. There's a totally different feel. I prefer OW. It will be interesting to see what kind of player base this has once it gets a full release. There was some speculation online that they added this beta because sales hadn't been good and they want to try to increase the day one player count.
Another 30 minutes in, and a few more thoughts. Some of the weapons block waaay too much of your screen. The rocket launcher blocks the lower right quarter of your screen entirely. And when you reload it, the damn thing blocks the middle of the screen. This game screams for transparent viewmodels. So far as I can tell, the reload animations can't be interrupted. So much for cancelling a reload because somebody pops into your field of vision. Instead, you get to just sit there like an idiot. Compounding this unfairness is that one character's primary is two pistols that fire and reload independently of each other. So there, unless you manually hit reload, you'll never be stuck without a round in the chamber. Back on the positive side, there aren't any super chokey points. While there's a class that can place a shield to block an area, it's temporary and there are usually multiple paths to the goal. The game also does a great job ensuring there are no stalemates. The games are quick by design.
Played it today for a little bit. Not long enough to do a review like Don, but enough to get some first impressions. I had fun, the matches seem fast paced and the maps I played were well balanced. (Mind you, this was only a few games, so take it with a grain of salt.) All being said, I'm just not super interested in this game right now ... nothing against it, I'm just not feeling it. Maybe it's not quite my thing, maybe I would like it more if I didn't already have my hands full with class-based multiperson FPSs. Not really sure.
This sums up my feelings exactly. It's not bad by any stretch, but it doesn't have any compelling reason for me to buy it.
