Solo allows you to learn the lay of the land, and to touchdown in much more remote areas. You have a lot of choices when you are only trying to equip one person.
I tend to play much more aggressively solo. Drop for a car and push out remotely, loot, then press for center of circle. Or drop in a heavy personnel spot with various strats for short game, mid and end game are more similar to squad Can be real fun soloing with various strats. Squad is very enjoyable when you have a group that works well together. Good communication is key to success. “Theres a guy over here” doesn’t cut it very frequently I wish you could change the compass color up top so you can actually see it. White crosshairs are terrible too.
Maybe I'll reinstall it after playing something else. Seemed like a lot of time moving around just to get shot by someone I never saw. Finding equipment and vehicles wasn't an issue; I may just be impatient and not very good.
I still don't know why I think it's fun. By all rights, it shouldn't be. You very often play a round just as you described - 15 minutes of looting and seeing nobody, then instadeath at the hands of an invisible assailant. Strangely, I find single player much less frustrating. There's no need to worry about dying an letting the team down. I just drop into hot spots and get into gunfights. That helps me get better at quickly equipping stuff, and you get waaaay better at landing shots. If you play in stealth mode, you almost never get the chance to practice firefights. Dropping in solo to military base/hospital/school, you'll get tons of practice with the guns. It's something I enjoy, and need to spend more time doing.
After Dark Souls III pisses me off for being impossible, I will give the PUBG run and gun method a try.

It is just like any other game. You just need to play a bit. I never saw anyone the first week or 2 I played, but I started getting adjusted and now I get a lot more kills.
It's such a frustrating game, spending all that time collecting gear just to be gunned down by some invisible enemy. I can see why many people don't like it. But I like a good adrenaline rush and this game does a great job at building up suspense. Landing next to an enemy and having to run for the nearest weapon before they take you out, hiding in the bathroom with a shotgun because you just heard a car full of enemies pull up next to the house you're looting (A.K.A. the Halbowitz strategy), and just knowing that you could be shot at any moment by dstraktd keeps me on the edge of my seat. It's embarrassing, but this game has made me jump more than any horror game I've ever played. I just wish the devs would pay more attention to the cheating that's going on.
