Sometimes, a game is made that really intrigues you. It meshes a style of game with an aesthetic that is very pleasing to the eye, so hopeful, so daring... For me, I'm looking at the kind of proper melding of Minecraft and No Man's Sky that... well, that No Man's Sky should have been. Astroneer Astroneer is game about wonder, discovery, power, greed, mystery, and grand endeavor in a new age of expansion on the fringes of humanity. You will land alone, or with a small crew of friends, on a planet to call your own. Harsh but bountiful, infinite worlds will beckon you to explore, exploit, and ultimately to reshape to your desire. Excavate and deform the land, uncover precious resources, jury-rig equipment to suit your taste and needs, create industrial scale extraction and manufacturing facilities, and locate rare items and artifacts. Contribute to the survival of Earth-based humankind, and get rich along the way. The game is currently in development as an early access title on Steam, and as a Game Preview on Xbox One and Windows 10. From videos of it thus far, I'm VERY excited, and eager to get it. I'm staring down the Xbone release right now (simply because the Play Anywhere Xbone and PC thing makes it easier to stomach) but I'm aware of Windows 10 issues, and the plans that are in progress on the Steam version. Is there anyone who has played this game that can vouch for it as a fun time? I don't play Minecraft much anymore, and I never really invested into the No Man's Sky hype, but the hour-long preview I played makes me really want it.
Very curious, too. I've seen it pop up a few times but I'm kinda selective about where I put my game time.
I'm pretty selective where I put my "game time" too. Not really, I was a whore before I got married. #alwayswrappeditup
What I found fun about the game is the freedom to alter the terrain to suit your purposes with the terrain tool. It can be fun and relaxing, but to do so you first need to build up the infrastructure required to have lots of power on demand. The game is kinda basic and gets rather boring after a short while. It also doesn't run well on my computer frames wise although I found a way to hack it to play smoother, since there are NO in-game options that actually function. It's a bit of a hack game itself, where the core concept of deforming terrain covering the entire surface is new and fresh and well executed, but the actual game itself seems to have been rushed and cobbled together from basic open source coding. Also in order to get anywhere significant you have to go out and retrieve strange objects and research them in your base which requires power. There is absolutely no indication as to what objects will get you what reward in the form of new buildings and vehicles and equipment, and the entire thing is random so there is no forward progression.
